Baklava

Ingredients

  • ½ kilo of phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of almonds, coarsely chopped
  • 2 cups of walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup of ground sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of cloves
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 cup of melted butter or olive oil for the phyllo

For the syrup:

  • 1.5 cups of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 4 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon

Instructions

Mix the walnuts, almonds, sesame seeds, honey and cinnamon cloves to create the filling. Then melt the butter, grease a baking tray and line 4 buttered sheets of phyllo dough. Spread a little filling and top with 2 more buttered sheets. Repeat once more and line with 4 more buttered sheets. Cut the baklava into squares, pour over the remaining butter and bake in medium heat until it is golden brown. Boil the syrup for 5 minutes, let it cool for a little (lukewarm) and pour over the baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.
